Why I am worried - Por qué me preocupo

Anyone who knows me well enough should know by now that I don’t worry too much about my own future. Having (not literally) died once, what lies ahead for me has lost a great deal of its importance.

But I do worry about the two children I have left. I worry about the place where they are growing. I worry about the society they will be part of.

Today the ugliest side of Australian bigotry and intolerance showed its repugnant face. They bared their teeth and stretched their claws. They abused an Australian MP, a Minister of the Government, and displayed their hatred, their bile, their repulsiveness. What an utterly disgusting example they have set for the rest of the world.

I worry because I am well aware that these xenophobes vote; and it is just so easy for them to elect someone who may be prepared to give in to their vile demands, to their disgusting views in exchange for their votes. I am worried, but I am not worried for myself. I am worried because I would rather see my children grow up in a society where the hideous behaviour some moronic bigots have displayed today is not possible.
